Year: 1998 Language: English Author: Gerhard Koop, Klaus-Peter Schmolke Publisher: Conway Maritime Press Edition: Conway Maritime Modellers Format: PDF Quality: eBook Pages count: 66 Description: Most of the content is pictures and drawings. The photos are all B&W, and most were taken of the ship underway or in action. There are a few of the interior of the vessel which is uncommon: some from the engineering spaces, one from what in USN parlance would be the CiC. There are several pages of pictures of large scale models: some of the original shipyard models, but most are of a more detailed and recently built 1/100 scale version in a museum. The drawings are where this book excels, which have apparently been adapted from the construction plans. There are side and top views of the ship as it was initially commissioned, the 1939 refit, and the proposed 1942 refit. There are B&W plates for the different color schemes used on the ship (which doesn't matter much as the ship was usually covered in a black/grey/white scheme much of its life.) The best feature-in my opinion at least--were the drawings of the hull and superstructure, deck by deck and frontal section at major frames, all featuring annotations in English. (I now know where the ships' surgeon was berthed, among other details.) This last point is uncommon for any volume on naval vessels outside the "Anatomy of the Ship" series, and this book may possibly be the closest analog that will be created for this ship.
