I've got basically the same question, I'm not tied to any one specific system yet, not opposed to buying a license for a map if it will give me worldwide data, like the tx97 version for example. Just don't want to go down the wrong route. If I understand correctly, you still have to buy a license for this, or that tx97(80gb version so maybe better info?). I'm trying to set up a boat and have a few options for directions on navigation, likely I'll use OpenCPN+Pypilot+newish radar that can talk to the network+n2K instrumentation for overall nav/autopilot usage. Then I can use other versions/paid charts for specific areas, but I'd love to have complete setups ready to be installed if needed like a K'd Maxsea+charts or anything that could read the tx-97 set.

Does it require an additional license key for the charts of some sort? What I've been able to find so far is that licenses are by a short time period and it again stops working after that, haven't been able to find a price either for it. Am I misunderstanding? I am not fussed on which program I use with it, though if I could integrate things like auto-pilot/n2k data/radar overlay that would be nice.
