The 2012-built ship is currently moored at a terminal in the Port of Algeciras, Spain, according to its latest AIS data. The 16,026 TEU ship headed from the British port of Southampton to the Total Terminal International Algeciras S.A. (TTI Algeciras) on March 26. “All necessary precautions have been taken to isolate the crewmember until medical assistance and a test can be undertaken. No other crew are showing symptoms,” CMA CGM said in a statement to our publication. The French liner giant said that in accordance with the current standard operating procedures, a total disinfection on board has been undertaken. “The priority for the CMA CGM Group is to ensure the safety and health of its employees.” The reports on suspected COVID-19 infection on board the giant containership comes on the heels of confirmed five infections on board Gjertrud Maersk. To remind, Maersk informed that out of a total of seven seafarers evacuated from the ship last week, five tested positive, including four asymptomatic, and two tested negative.
